Comprehensive report on the See and Smile project
Comprehensive report on the See and Smile project which finished last week on Friday 10th July.
Total of 3125 patients were screened, 146 cataract surgeries, 4 surgeries were successfully done for squint, 19 surgeries for glaucoma were done. 602 patients received assistance for their teeth problems.
There were two camps before the arrival of the Doctors from Belgium and 10 with the doctors from Belgium.
97 deaf children at MSANDAKA LIONS DEAF CENTER were screened and 1 deaf child's sight was saved as it had Glaucoma which could have lead him to blindness in couple of months.
Special tooth pastes for gums problems and sensitive teeth were also given to the needy.
During the 12 days exercise 625 pairs of spectacles and medicines were also given to the needy.
Unfortunately 57 cataract surgeries could not be done as the patients did not turn up we and close follow up is being done if found will be operated at KCMC.
In total Lions have served for more than 144 hours in 12 days and the value of the project is more than 140,000 USD this includes the air tickets, accommodation, food, transport, medicines, spectacles, material for surgeries, payments to top local doctors and other local expenses. Most of it was in form of donations from well wishers.
