Surgery camp for the above activity has been on going at Nakapiripirit District in Karamoja , Uganda since Monday and ended today 14th August , 2015. Eleven (11) Lion Members from Zone 11 participated in the activity. One hundred forty four (144) eyes were operated upon with a total out patients number of 200 coming to Lolachat Health Centre 3 in Nabilatuk for treatment.
The activity was implemented in partnership with CBM .The Team leader Lion Dr Mayeku was impressed with the turn up and thanked the village health team workers , community leaders , civic leaders and Lions fraternity for the support and cooperation.
Trachoma in Karamoja is rampant among women and children who bare the brunt of care and access to the families in the homesteads. Patients were picked from their homes brought to the health facility , operated upon treated and returned to their homestead . They were provided some soap for cleaning themselves up while at home.The parishes of Lorukumo, Natirai amd Nakuri in Nabilatuk were the focus areas.
